Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar, wife of former Nepal Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, tragically died on Tuesday after their residence in Dallu was set ablaze by "Gen Z" protesters. According to Nepali media reports, demonstrators reportedly trapped Chitrakar inside the house before igniting the fire.
She was later rescued from the burning property and rushed to Kirtipur Burn Hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Chitrakar succumbed to her severe burn injuries during treatment, as confirmed by family sources. Her death marks another grim casualty amidst the escalating anti-government unrest that has gripped Nepal.
This incident occurred as the "Gen Z" protests turned increasingly violent, following reports that security forces had killed 19 youths and injured 500 others on Monday. While family members have confirmed her demise, official confirmation regarding Chitrakar's death or its precise cause remains pending. The targeting of political figures' homes, including that of the former PM, highlights the intense anger and severe political crisis facing the nation.
