Desk Correspondent , Delhi - The Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and detained five individuals in connection with the violence that erupted during a demolition drive near Turkman Gate on Wednesday. The unrest broke out when the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) moved to raze the Faiz-e-Elahi Masjid, citing it as an unauthorized encroachment. As bulldozers began their work, a mob reportedly engaged in stone-pelting against security forces and municipal workers, leading to several injuries among personnel and causing damage to public property.

Authorities have used video footage and drone surveillance to identify those responsible for instigating the crowd and leading the attack on the police. The five detained individuals are currently being interrogated for their roles in the rioting and for obstructing public servants from performing their duties. The FIR includes multiple sections related to rioting, assault on a public servant, and damaging public property. Senior police officials confirmed that more arrests are likely as the investigation continues to trace the "conspirators" behind the sudden escalation of violence in the sensitive Walled City area.

While the physical demolition has been completed, the area remains under a heavy security blanket to prevent any retaliatory incidents. Paramilitary forces and local police units continue to conduct flag marches through the narrow lanes of Old Delhi to instill a sense of security and maintain law and order. Local community leaders have been engaged by the administration to help pacify the residents and prevent the spread of rumors. Despite the heavy police presence, the atmosphere in Turkman Gate remains tense, with many residents expressing anger over the loss of the religious structure.
