New Delhi, August 26 – Delhi Police have arrested Tahseen (Tehseen) Syed, a friend of the prime accused Rajeshbhai Khimji Sakriya, in connection with the recent attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Officials said Syed was detained from Rajkot, Gujarat, and brought to the capital for questioning.
According to investigators, Syed transferred ₹2,000 online to Sakriya shortly before the incident. Police suspect he was aware of the accused’s plan and may have indirectly aided it. “The money trail is an important link in the probe. We are verifying if this transfer was part of the preparation for the attack,” a senior officer said.
The prime accused, Sakriya, had allegedly attempted to attack the Chief Minister during a public interaction earlier this month. He was arrested on the spot, and the case drew sharp political reactions. Following this, police began tracking his associates and discovered Syed’s financial connection.
Officials added that Syed is being questioned to determine his exact role. “We are probing whether this was simply financial help between friends or whether he knowingly supported Sakriya’s plan,” an official noted.
The incident has raised concerns over security arrangements for high-profile leaders. Opposition parties have criticised the government for “failing to ensure safety”, while ruling party leaders have called for stronger preventive measures.
The police investigation remains ongoing, with further arrests not ruled out.
