Cyclone Montha to weaken by noon, So far 1 dead and 98 houses collapsed in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh - Since the landfall of cyclone ‘Montha’ on 7 p.m. on Tuesday (October 28, 2025), it crossed the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatanam, to the south of Kakinada, the IMD said. The severe cyclone Montha is going to weaken into deep depression by noon today, moving northwest across Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rainfall is expected alongside. Till now, 98 houses have collapsed over the past 24 hours and 1 woman died on spot in Andhra Pradesh.

According to source, a 45-year-old woman succumbed to death while visiting a relative’s house, as a palm tree fell on her in Makanapaelm village in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district on Tuesday. The victim’s name is Goodavalli Veeraveni. Following that incident, the Konaseema in-charge District Revenue Officer K. Madhabi has said, “Only one human loss has been reported. The damage t crops and cattle is being enumerated.”

Strong winds during landfall crushed 98 houses so far in the Konaseema district. However, the speed of the weather system dipped to 10 kmph during the last six hours and moved to the northwest, according to the IMD bulletin. Meanwhile the cyclone disrupted the Hyderabad traffic with heavy congestion during peak office hours. Commuters remained stuck in road between 8 a.m to 11 a.m. Heavy rainfall triggered water logging in low-lying areas. The waterlogging happened overnight after the storm crossed the coast near Narasapur in West Godavari district, south of Kakinada, IMD said today.
