Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - The mortal remains of 15 Indian nationals who died in the Vietnam boat tragedy have reached Mumbai. The speedboat capsized on July 11 near Hon May Rut Ngoai Island off Phu Quoc, killing 15 of the 36 people on board.

According to reports, the bodies arrived on Vietnam Airlines flight VN979 and were received in Mumbai before being sent onward to their home states for final rites. The victims included 10 people from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh, and two from Kerala. Indian authorities and state governments have been coordinating the repatriation process so that the remains can reach grieving families quickly.

The accident happened when the tourist speedboat, carrying 32 Indian tourists and four Vietnamese crew members, overturned in rough weather near Phu Quoc Island. Reports say the vessel was traveling from Hon May Rut Islet to An Thoi Port when it encountered strong winds and waves and capsized. Of the 36 people aboard, 21 survived.

The return of the bodies to Mumbai marks a painful step in the aftermath of one of the deadliest overseas accidents involving Indian tourists this year. The focus now is on final rites, family support, and the ongoing investigation into how the tragedy unfolded.
