Desk Correspondent , Kolkata - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of rigging elections through fake votes following the recovery of hundreds of official identity documents from TMC party offices. Local residents and BJP workers reportedly discovered a large cache of Aadhaar cards, voters’ photo identity cards, and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) job cards on Sunday. The opposition alleged that these crucial identity documents were forcefully confiscated from genuine voters to prevent them from casting their ballots, thereby allowing ruling party workers to rig the electoral process.
According to police and local sources, the recoveries occurred across multiple districts in West Bengal, including Bidhan Nagar, Birbhum, and West Midnapore. In Bidhan Nagar's Basanti Debi Colony, over a hundred Aadhaar cards, many dating back to 2021 and still sealed in postal envelopes, were found alongside land deeds inside a TMC office. Separately, a few hundred voter ID cards were found abandoned in a field in Kirnahar, a prominent TMC stronghold in Birbhum district, while similar discoveries of MGNREGS job cards and voter cards were reported from a TMC office in Garbeta, West Midnapore.
The BJP leadership has strongly condemned the discoveries, claiming that these incidents expose a systematic "reign of terror" where citizens were disenfranchised. Newly elected BJP legislator Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee stated that genuine voters were threatened and stopped from exercising their franchise, while BJP state vice-president Jagannath Chattopadhyay asserted that thousands of such cards remain hidden across TMC offices. Local police authorities have seized the recovered documents and initiated a thorough investigation, while political tensions continue to escalate across the state.
