The political landscape in Bihar is buzzing with activity as the Assembly Elections 2025 draw near, with the Election Commission expected to announce the schedule in mere weeks. The upcoming polls are set to be a high-stakes affair, as evidenced by the scheduled visits of national heavyweights Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, and Amit Shah to Bihar this month.
Behind the scenes, the Mahagathbandhan alliance is deeply entrenched in seat-sharing negotiations. The Congress party has issued a stern warning against being treated as a "dumping yard" for unwinnable constituencies. Leaders are pushing for a balanced distribution of seats, anticipating around 57-60 constituencies, and emphasising that all allies must "share the burden" to accommodate potential new partners in the coalition.
Adding a contentious layer to the pre-election narrative, Congress has launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing it of widespread "vote chori" in alleged collusion with the Election Commission. The party claims a "definite process for vote theft" is being orchestrated, alleging that Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have conspired to alter the Election Commissioner selection process and are actively "tampering with the electoral roll".
