Ananya Lohia , Kolkata - The encounter killing of the main accused in the Baruipur rape and murder case has triggered a fresh political storm in West Bengal, with the BJP calling it "divine justice" and the Trinamool Congress condemning it as "jungle law."

The accused, Prabhas Mondal, was killed during a police operation after allegedly attempting to snatch a firearm and escape while the crime scene was being reconstructed. The encounter came amid widespread public outrage over the rape and murder of a minor girl. While the BJP defended the police action as a firm message against crimes against women, TMC leaders Mahua Moitra and Saugata Roy questioned the legality of the encounter, alleging police excesses and demanding a detailed investigation into the incident.

The BJP also renewed its demand to reopen the 2013 Kamduni gangrape and murder case, claiming justice was never fully delivered. Meanwhile, Kamduni movement leader Mousumi Kayal welcomed the encounter, calling it the beginning of "Asur Vadh" and urging strict action against rapists.

As political tensions escalate over the encounter, the incident has reignited the debate over police action, justice for victims, and law and order in West Bengal.
