Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - In a remarkable display of skill, coordination, and endurance, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have etched their name into the Guinness World Records by creating the world's tallest underwater human tower. The record-breaking feat was achieved at Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island), where a team of divers successfully formed a towering 73.16-foot (22.3-meter) human stack beneath the sea.
The historic achievement was accomplished on May 3, 2026, as part of a special initiative led by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to promote adventure tourism and showcase the region's world-class diving ecosystem. Months of meticulous planning, safety preparations, and training went into the attempt, which required divers to maintain balance and coordination underwater while constructing the massive human tower. Guinness World Records officially recognized the feat as the tallest human stack formed underwater, measuring 22.3 meters (73.16 feet).
The achievement is being celebrated as a major boost for the islands' tourism sector. Authorities believe the record will further establish Swaraj Dweep as one of Asia's premier scuba-diving destinations. The human tower was one of two Guinness World Record achievements completed during the event, alongside the unfurling of the largest national flag underwater. Together, the accomplishments highlighted the region's growing reputation for adventure sports, marine tourism, and environmental awareness.
The record-breaking underwater human tower is more than just a remarkable achievement it is a testament to teamwork, determination, and the adventurous spirit of the Andaman Islands. By securing a place in the Guinness World Records, the islands have gained global recognition while reinforcing their status as one of India's most spectacular destinations for diving and marine exploration.
