The Ambani family’s business empire has reached an estimated value of ₹28 lakh crore, making it more than twice as large as the Adani family’s ₹14 lakh crore fortune, according to the latest Hurun–Barclays ranking of India’s most valuable family-owned businesses. The report confirms the Ambanis’ continued dominance in the country’s corporate landscape, supported by the vast scale of Reliance Industries across energy, telecom, and retail sectors.
The valuation marks a 10 percent increase from last year, further widening the gap with other top business families. The Adanis, while ranking second overall, lead among first-generation family enterprises, driven by rapid expansion in ports, infrastructure, and energy.
Collectively, India’s top 300 family-owned businesses are now valued at ₹134 lakh crore, equivalent to around $1.6 trillion. This figure is close to the annual GDP of nations such as Spain, highlighting the scale of these enterprises in the global economy. The report notes that these businesses added an average of ₹7,100 crore in wealth per day during the past year.
In addition to wealth creation, the top families contribute significantly to public revenue, paying over ₹1.8 lakh crore in taxes—nearly 15 percent of India’s corporate tax collections—and providing employment to more than 2 million people.
The findings underscore the enduring role of family-run conglomerates in driving India’s economic growth, while also reflecting the concentration of wealth and influence in a few high-profile corporate dynasties.
