Amazon is reportedly planning to reduce its human resources (HR) workforce by up to 15% as part of a strategic restructuring focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud operations. The HR department, known internally as People eXperience and Technology (PXT), employs over 10,000 individuals globally, encompassing roles in recruitment, technology, and traditional HR functions. However, the exact number of employees affected and the timeline for these layoffs have not been disclosed.
This move is part of Amazon's broader strategy to enhance efficiency and automation through AI integration. CEO Andy Jassy has emphasized AI's central role in the company's future, aiming to streamline operations and reduce costs. Earlier this year, Amazon laid off employees in various divisions, including consumer devices and Amazon Web Services (AWS), as part of its ongoing restructuring efforts. Additionally, the company has allocated over $100 billion for capital investments in AI and cloud infrastructure in 2025.
