AAP Removes Raghav Chadha as Rajya Sabha Deputy Leader

Desk Correspondent , New Delhi - The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has removed Raghav Chadha from his post as deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, with Punjab MP Ashok Mittal named as his replacement. The party wrote to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat on April 2, 2026, formally notifying the change, and the Upper House website was updated to reflect Mittal as AAP’s new deputy leader while Sanjay Singh continues as the party’s leader in the House.

In a video message posted on social media, Raghav Chadha said he feels “silenced, but not defeated,” signalling that he accepts the removal while asserting that it will not diminish his political resolve. A close associate of Arvind Kejriwal and one of AAP’s most visible parliamentarians, Chadha has been a key debater in the Rajya Sabha and has often taken on the opposition and Centre on national issues, his relative quiet in recent internal party crises reportedly prompted the leadership to reshuffle the role.

The move intensifies chatter about internal realignments within AAP, especially ahead of upcoming state elections, with sources suggesting the party wants a more “disciplined” parliamentary image. While Chadha remains a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, the loss of the deputy leader tag marks a significant step down in his formal seniority within AAP’s Upper House team, even as the party publicly insists the change is part of routine organisational strategy rather than a punishment.
