The United States is considering tougher measures against immigrants holding Green Cards and work visas who are found guilty of drunk driving. Reports suggest that offenders could face immediate deportation without prior hearings or formal warnings, marking a sharp escalation in the country’s immigration enforcement policies.
According to officials, the move is aimed at treating drunk driving as a serious public safety threat rather than a minor violation. If implemented, the policy would allow immigration authorities to cancel legal status and initiate deportation proceedings swiftly after a conviction.
The proposal has triggered concern among immigrant communities, particularly in states with large populations of foreign workers and students. Advocacy groups argue that such a measure would deny individuals the right to a fair hearing and could disproportionately affect those with minor or first-time offenses.
Supporters of the plan, however, insist that stricter action is necessary to deter reckless behavior and protect citizens. They argue that immigrants must abide by the same standards of responsibility expected of all residents.
The plan is still under review and is expected to spark legal and political debate if formally introduced.
