The comments came as Iranian state media reported that talks between Tehran and Oman over the Strait of Hormuz were in their final stages.

Trump’s approach suggests he is still using diplomacy alongside pressure, after recently backing off from new strikes in order to keep negotiations alive. He has not given a timetable for agreement, which leaves room for more bargaining while the military option remains in the background.

On the Hormuz track, Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said the talks with Oman are “nearing completion” and described them as being in the final stages, according to IRNA. The negotiations have focused on how the strategic waterway should be managed, with both sides trying to reach a formula that protects shipping while respecting sovereignty and security concerns.

The issue matters because the Strait of Hormuz is central to global energy flows and any arrangement there can affect the wider U.S.-Iran standoff. Iran and Oman have already exchanged proposals, but Tehran has pushed for a setup that gives it more oversight than Oman’s original plan.
