Ananya Lohia , Mumbai - Actor Sonali Bendre has revealed that she initially wanted to take on light-hearted and hopeful projects after overcoming cancer, but eventually chose to star in the crime drama Raakh, despite its emotionally intense subject matter.
Speaking about her career choices following her recovery from stage-four metastatic cancer, Sonali said she had been looking for positive roles after emerging from a difficult phase in her life. She admitted that after her cancer battle, she wanted projects that would keep her in a happy and hopeful space. However, Raakh changed her perspective. Although she was not actively seeking such a dark role, the show's compelling script convinced her to take on the character of a grieving mother.

The series is inspired by the 1978 Ranga-Billa case, involving the abduction and murder of siblings Geeta and Sanjay Chopra in Delhi. While Sonali expressed satisfaction with being part of the project, she also admitted she would have liked more screen time in the series. The actor added that she is currently in a "good space" professionally and is being offered roles she may not have received during her peak years in the 1990s.
Directed by Prosit Roy, Anusha Nandakumar and Sandeep Saket, Raakh has received positive reviews since its release. The series also features Ali Fazal, Aamir Bashir and other prominent actors in key roles.
