Simran Slams Bollywood for Disrespecting South Actors , Ignoring Their Legacy

Desk Correspondent , Tamil Nadu - Popular Tamil actor Simran has sparked a conversation about the treatment of South Indian artists in Bollywood, alleging that the Hindi film industry often overlooks their legacy and fails to offer basic respect.

In a candid interaction, Simran opened up about her struggles while working in Bollywood, revealing that she has turned down several Hindi film offers due to a lack of connection and respect. She stated that many in the industry are unaware of the body of work and stature South Indian actors bring with them, which makes the experience disheartening. “There is no respect. I have given more than half of my life to cinema, and if I still don’t get that respect, it hurts,” she said, highlighting how deeply the issue affects her. The actor also pointed out practical challenges, claiming that some production houses even negotiate over basic facilities. From limiting staff members to bargaining over travel and accommodation, Simran said such behaviour creates a sense of hierarchy that makes artists feel undervalued. However, not all her experiences have been negative. Simran shared that her recent project Gabru, alongside Sunny Deol, was a pleasant experience. She praised producer Om Changani for his professionalism and described Deol as humble and kind. She also appreciated the warm environment on the sets of Gulmohar, where she felt respected and welcomed.

Simran’s journey in cinema began with her debut in Sanam Harjai in 1995, followed by her Hindi film Tere Mere Sapne, where she was noticed by Jaya Bachchan. She later became one of Tamil cinema’s most celebrated stars with films like Kannathil Muthamittal, Pammal K. Sambandam, and Panchatanthiram. Most recently, she appeared in Tourist Family alongside M. Sasikumar, which received both critical and commercial success.

Simran’s remarks have once again brought attention to the long-standing debate around regional bias within the Indian film industry. While her positive experiences show that change is possible, her criticism highlights the need for greater respect and recognition of talent across industries, regardless of language or region.
