Desk Correspondent , Punjab - A major controversy has erupted around Yuzvendra Chahal after a viral social media video allegedly showed the Punjab Kings spinner vaping during a flight journey. The clip quickly triggered strong reactions online, with former India spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan demanding strict punishment and claiming that those violating India’s anti-vaping laws should face severe consequences.
The video, reportedly taken from a podcast clip involving Arshdeep Singh, appeared to show Chahal trying to hide the act while seated beside teammate Shashank Singh on a flight. However, the authenticity of the video and whether Chahal was actually vaping could not be independently verified. Reacting to the controversy, Sivaramakrishnan launched a scathing criticism on X, stating that vaping is banned in India and questioning the lack of strict enforcement. He also took aim at the recent punishment handed to Riyan Parag, who was fined 25 per cent of his match fees for vaping inside the dressing room during an IPL match.
“Vape is banned in India. Should be behind bars. What is the point in having Laws and not implementing them? 25% of match fees is peanuts,” Sivaramakrishnan wrote. The controversy comes at a time when the Board of Control for Cricket in India has tightened rules regarding player conduct. In a recent directive sent to all IPL franchises, the BCCI clearly stated that vapes and e-cigarettes are strictly prohibited inside stadiums, dressing rooms, practice venues, and team hotels. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia warned that such acts could amount to a cognisable offence under Indian law. However, Punjab Kings management ban Arshdeep from creating vlogs or youtube videos during IPL.
With the video continuing to circulate widely on social media, the incident has sparked a fresh debate around player discipline and the enforcement of anti-vaping laws in Indian cricket. While no official action has yet been announced against Chahal, the controversy has once again placed IPL players under intense public and administrative scrutiny.
