Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, on Sunday welcomed the "immediate ceasefire" agreement reached with Afghanistan, facilitated by peace talks brokered by Qatar and Turkey।
He emphasized the importance of establishing a concrete and verifiable monitoring mechanism to address the issue of terrorism emanating from Afghan soil towards Pakistan. Dar called for concerted efforts to prevent any further loss of lives and ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire.
The ceasefire agreement comes after a series of border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which resulted in casualties on both sides. The recent escalation included Pakistani airstrikes that led to the deaths of at least 10 people, including three Afghan cricketers. In response, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during a conversation with Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim, reiterated Pakistan's stance that cross-border terrorism emanating from Afghan soil continues to pose a significant threat. Sharif emphasized the need for effective measures by Afghan authorities to dismantle terrorist networks operating from their territory.
