Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has warned that India “could play dirty at the border” and claimed Pakistan is ready for a “two-front war,” as tensions rise between Islamabad and Kabul.
Speaking to Samaa TV, Asif said the possibility of Indian aggression cannot be ruled out, citing an earlier “encounter” with India likely referring to Pakistan’s response to India’s Operation Sindoor against terror camps. He asserted that Pakistani forces had not been withdrawn from the Afghan border at the time.
Pressed on whether the government had strategised for simultaneous conflicts on two fronts, Asif replied that while strategic planning exists, it is not discussed publicly. Nonetheless, he insisted there was no doubt about Pakistan’s readiness.
His remarks follow reported Pakistani airstrikes in Kabul targeting Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leader Noor Wali Mehsud, which Kabul denounced as a breach of its sovereignty. India, meanwhile, voiced support for Afghanistan in the border clashes, accusing Pakistan of sponsoring terrorism and blaming Islamabad for destabilising its neighbours.
