The Rajya Sabha witnessed uproar on Monday as opposition members staged a walkout demanding an immediate discussion on the Special Investigation Report. The session saw heated exchanges between treasury benches and the opposition, with repeated disruptions before members chose to leave the House in protest.
Leaders of the opposition bloc accused the government of avoiding accountability and claimed that the SIR raised serious questions requiring urgent parliamentary debate. They insisted that the Upper House should prioritize the matter, arguing that silence on the issue undermines public trust.
Chairman of the Rajya Sabha urged members to maintain order and assured that discussions could be taken up as per the rules, but the opposition remained unconvinced. After slogans and interruptions, several members eventually walked out, bringing proceedings to a standstill for a significant period.
The government, meanwhile, defended its stance, saying that due process would be followed and accused the opposition of politicizing the issue. Ministers argued that repeated disruptions were affecting the House’s legislative business.
Political observers noted that the walkout highlights the widening rift between the government and opposition, setting the stage for further confrontations in the ongoing session.
