Desk Correspondent , Bhopal — A 31-year-old woman from Noida was found hanging at her marital residence in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area, barely six months after marrying a Bhopal-based lawyer whom she met through a dating app. Following allegations of foul play by the victim's family, the Bhopal police registered an FIR against her husband—the son of a retired judge—and his mother under Section 80(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for dowry death. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate claims of physical abuse, harassment, and an alleged cover-up.
The deceased had connected with her husband online in 2024 before tying the knot in December 2025 and relocating to Madhya Pradesh. According to her father, the victim called him just thirty minutes before her death, complaining of severe harassment and physical assault by her spouse and mother-in-law. Although authorities initially approached the case as a suspected suicide, the woman’s relatives pointed out suspicious injury marks on her body and publicly accused her in-laws of murder, demanding a thorough and uncompromised forensic analysis.
Growing outrage over the incident culminated in a family protest outside the residence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, where they requested a second post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi and a transfer of the legal proceedings outside the state. While the victim’s father-in-law, a former sessions judge, was granted interim bail by a Bhopal district court, the husband’s anticipatory bail plea remains scheduled for a hearing. The newly formed SIT, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Kashyap, has intensified efforts to locate and arrest the absconding husband.
