Ananya Lohia , Lucknow - India suffered an injury setback ahead of the second ODI against Afghanistan in Lucknow as all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy was ruled out of the match due to a sore left thigh. The BCCI confirmed that the 23-year-old is currently under the supervision of the medical team.
The update came shortly after the toss, with the BCCI announcing that Reddy was unavailable for selection because of discomfort in his left thigh. The all-rounder had impressed in the series opener, claiming two wickets, including the crucial dismissal of centurion Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bowl first, while India made three changes to their playing XI. Fast bowler Prince Yadav received his maiden ODI cap, while Kuldeep Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal were also included in the side. Captain Shubman Gill later revealed that Reddy had suffered a quad-related issue. Afghanistan, meanwhile, also made three changes to their lineup. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi disclosed that veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi was unavailable due to illness, while Azmatullah Omarzai missed out after sustaining an injury during a practice session.
Reddy's absence is a significant blow for India, considering his impressive performance in the first ODI. With the series still in progress, the Indian team will be hoping for a speedy recovery for the young all-rounder as the BCCI medical staff continue to monitor his condition.
