Desk Correspondent , Jaipur - Delhi Capitals pacer Kyle Jamieson has been handed a demerit point and an official warning for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during a match against Rajasthan Royals. The action comes after his aggressive on-field send-off to teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi sparked controversy.
The incident took place during Match No. 43 of the Indian Premier League at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. In the second over of the first innings, Jamieson dismissed 15-year-old Sooryavanshi for a quick 4 runs off two balls. Following the dismissal, the New Zealand pacer celebrated in an aggressive manner, clapping and moving close to the batter, an action that was deemed capable of provoking a reaction. According to an official IPL statement, Jamieson breached Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to using language or gestures that could incite an aggressive response from another player. As a result, he was handed one demerit point under a Level 1 offence.
Jamieson accepted the charge and the sanction imposed by match referee Rajeev Seth, bringing a swift resolution to the matter. The incident also drew reactions from the cricketing community. Former cricketer Priyank Panchal remarked that the send-off did not present a “pretty sight,” especially given the young age of Sooryavanshi. However, he also noted that such reactions highlight the growing impact the teenage batter has already made on opponents. Despite the early dismissal of Sooryavanshi, Delhi Capitals went on to dominate the match, securing a seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals to register their fourth win of the season.
While the match ended in a convincing win for Delhi Capitals, the spotlight remained on Kyle Jamieson’s conduct, once again underlining the importance of maintaining discipline and sportsmanship in high-intensity tournaments like the IPL.
