Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - India have announced their 15-member squad for the three-match ODI series against England next month, with Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah returning to the side after missing the recent series against Afghanistan. Shubman Gill will continue to lead the team, while all-rounder Hardik Pandya remains unavailable as he continues his rehabilitation.
Kohli returns after recovering from the hamstring injury he sustained during the IPL final, while Bumrah, who was rested for the Afghanistan series, also makes a comeback. Spin all-rounder Axar Patel has been recalled after being rested for the Afghanistan tour. However, despite scoring a century in the third ODI against Afghanistan, Yashasvi Jaiswal was left out of the squad. Fast bowler Gurnoor Brar retained his place following an impressive performance against Afghanistan, while Prince Yadav and Harsh Dubey were dropped.
The squad also features Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh. India will begin the ODI series at Edgbaston on July 14, followed by matches at Sophia Gardens on July 16 and Lord's on July 19. India will play the first ODI at Edgbaston under Gill captaincy. Before the ODI assignment, India are scheduled to play a two-match T20I series against Ireland and a five-match T20I series against England.
The return of Kohli and Bumrah significantly strengthens India's squad for the England challenge, while the omission of Jaiswal despite his recent century is likely to spark discussion ahead of the three-match ODI series.
