Desk Correspondent , Punjab - Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has firmly dismissed speculation about entering politics after a Punjabi publication questioned whether he could become the “new political face of Punjab.” Responding directly on social media, Diljit clarified that his focus remains on entertainment and not politics, even as he continues to speak openly about issues concerning Punjab.
The speculation began after a report suggested that Diljit Dosanjh could emerge as a political figure in Punjab due to his strong public voice on social issues. Reacting to the claims on X, Diljit wrote, “Never.. My work is to entertain. I am very happy in my field.”
The statement came amid fresh controversy surrounding his recent concert in Calgary, where he reportedly paused the show after noticing protesters waving Khalistan flags in the crowd. Addressing the audience during the concert, Diljit said people could wave the flags if they wished, but he would continue working to make Punjab proud globally. During the event, the singer also opened up about facing criticism from multiple sides. He said that in India he is often labelled a “Khalistani,” while abroad he faces different accusations, leaving him caught between opposing narratives. He added that he only wishes to follow a balanced path and focus on representing Punjab positively. Diljit Dosanjh further addressed criticism over his appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. He explained that appearing on the show was aimed at bringing attention to Punjab and its issues, not making any political statement. Diljit also highlighted his financial contributions to relief efforts in Punjab during crises such as floods and the farmers’ protests. Over the years, the actor has often found himself at the centre of political debate. While separatist groups have criticised him over certain actions, right-wing groups in India have accused him of indirectly supporting Khalistani sentiments, especially after his vocal support for the 2020–21 farmers’ protests. He also drew attention last year for starring alongside Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in the Punjabi film Sardaar Ji.
Despite repeated controversies and political speculation, Diljit Dosanjh has made it clear that he has no intention of entering politics. The singer maintains that his role is to entertain audiences while continuing to raise awareness about Punjab and its people through his platform. On the professional front, Diljit is now gearing up for the release of Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali, which is scheduled to hit theatres on June 12.’
