Washington, August 18 — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested Cindy Singh, who was accused of fleeing to India after the alleged murder of her six-year-old son in the United States.
Officials said Singh had been under investigation since the child’s death earlier this year. Authorities believe she left the country soon after the incident, sparking an international manhunt with assistance from Indian agencies.
The FBI confirmed on Sunday that Singh was taken into custody following her return to the US. Details of her extradition or travel back to American soil have not been disclosed yet.
According to reports, Singh faces serious charges including murder and child neglect. Legal experts suggest she could face life imprisonment if convicted.
The case has drawn wide attention because of its cross-border dimension. Law enforcement officials said they were working to establish how Singh managed to leave the US despite being a prime suspect.
Community members in her neighbourhood expressed shock at both the child’s death and Singh’s alleged role, with many calling for a speedy trial.
FBI officials said further updates will be provided once Singh is produced before court.
