Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - Commonwealth Games 2026 silver medallist Gyaneshwari Yadav was felicitated by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who announced a Rs 30 lakh cash reward and an out-of-turn promotion to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for her historic achievement.

The Rajnandgaon weightlifter clinched silver in the women's 53kg category at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, lifting a combined 199kg in her debut appearance. Congratulating Yadav, the Chief Minister described her medal as a proud moment for both Chhattisgarh and the nation, recalling that he had wished her before the Games and personally congratulated her after her success.

Sai said the reward reflects the state's commitment to recognising sporting excellence and encouraging athletes to aim higher. He also highlighted the government's efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure, coaching and training facilities to help more athletes from Chhattisgarh excel at international events.

Calling Gyaneshwari Yadav an inspiration for young athletes, especially girls, the Chief Minister said her journey proves that determination and hard work can lead to success on the global stage.
