Tianjin, China – India is likely to receive Russian oil at discounted prices and additional S-400 air defence systems, even as US tariffs create pressure on New Delhi, reports said.
Urals crude is now priced $3–$4 per barrel cheaper than Brent for September–October shipments, higher than last month’s discount. Russian oil supplies to India are also expected to rise by up to 20% this month.
Alongside, Russia is negotiating the delivery of two pending S-400 units under the $5.5 billion deal signed in 2018. Three units have already been supplied, with the remaining systems expected in 2026 and 2027.
The S-400s were deployed during Operation Sindoor, India’s strike on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir earlier this year. Russian officials indicated the scope for expanding defence cooperation further.
These developments follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with President Vladimir Putin at the SCO Summit in Tianjin, where both leaders reaffirmed close ties. The US, meanwhile, has criticised India for continuing energy and defence trade with Moscow despite sanctions.
