Desk Correspondent , New Delhi - The Bengaluru- Mumbai Vande Bharat sleeper train has received approval from Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, marking a significant step towards faster and more comfortable overnight travel between the two cities.
The route was formally approved following discussions with Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan, who officially announced the confirmation on April 11,2026. The train has been built by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) at its Bengaluru complex using there technologies from Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai. It is announced that the service is expected to be operated and maintained by the south western railway (swr) zone. While the final launch date and tickets prices have not been officially announced, the ministry aims to roll out 12 Vande bharat sleeper trains nationwide by December 2026. The capacity of the train consists of 16 coaches with the total of 823 berths.
At present only one direct train, the Udyan Express operates between two cities, taking around 22 hours. The Vande Bharat sleeper is expected to significantly reduce travel time, with estimates suggesting an overnight journey of around 16 hours.
