Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - A new international climate report has warned that global temperatures are expected to remain at or near record-breaking levels over the next five years, raising fresh concerns about accelerating climate change and worsening extreme weather events across the world. Scientists say continued warming could intensify heatwaves, droughts, floods, rising sea levels, and ecological damage, while pushing several regions closer to dangerous environmental tipping points.
According to climate experts, the report predicts a very high probability that at least one of the next five years will surpass previous global temperature records. Researchers say the warming trend is being driven largely by greenhouse gas emissions combined with natural climate patterns such as El Niño. The study also warns that average global temperatures are increasingly moving beyond the critical 1.5 degree Celsius threshold outlined in international climate agreements, a level scientists associate with more severe climate impacts. Experts cautioned that the effects of rising temperatures are already becoming visible through stronger storms, prolonged heatwaves, shrinking glaciers, water shortages, and disruptions to agriculture and biodiversity. Vulnerable countries and densely populated urban areas are expected to face the greatest risks, particularly in regions already struggling with climate-related disasters. Environmental organizations are urging governments to accelerate clean energy transitions, reduce carbon emissions, and strengthen climate adaptation measures before the impacts become even more difficult to manage.
The latest climate projections reinforce growing scientific warnings that the world is entering a period of prolonged environmental stress driven by rising temperatures. As extreme weather events become more frequent and intense, pressure is mounting on global leaders to take faster and more coordinated action against climate change.
