Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - Donald Trump said a deal has been reached for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza as part of his wider ceasefire plan. But Hamas has not publicly confirmed the agreement, and immediate details suggest the process would unfold in phases.

According to Trump’s statement, Israeli forces would withdraw as disarmament moves forward, while an international stabilization force and a new Palestinian police force take over security responsibilities in Gaza. The plan is tied to a broader political framework that also includes a new technocratic Palestinian administration and reconstruction of the enclave.

A Hamas negotiator said the movement was making concessions “for the sake of our people in the Gaza Strip” to protect them from further killing and displacement. He added that the weapons issue is linked to Israel’s withdrawal, the role of a national committee and reconstruction work, which suggests Hamas is treating disarmament as part of a wider political bargain rather than a standalone surrender.

The biggest uncertainty is timing. Reuters reported that heavy weapons surrender and tunnel decommissioning could take months, while the initial transfer of some weapons by Gaza police could happen much sooner, meaning the headline deal still leaves major steps unresolved.

Trump is presenting the agreement as a major milestone, but it is better understood as the start of a phased process rather than a finished peace settlement. The real test will be whether Hamas, Israel and the mediators can turn the broad framework into a workable sequence on the ground.
