Desk Correspondent , Mumbai - Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday inaugurated the first phases of Mumbai Metro Line 9 and Line 2B, marking another major step in the city’s growing metro network. With this launch, Mumbai has added two more important corridors that are expected to improve connectivity and ease the burden on road traffic.
The newly inaugurated Metro Line 9 runs from Dahisar East to Kashigaon, while Line 2B connects Mandale to Chembur. Together, the two corridors are expected to offer commuters faster and more convenient travel options across key parts of the city. The launch comes at a time when Mumbai continues to expand its public transport infrastructure to cope with rising passenger demand. With these additions, Mumbai now has six operational metro corridors. They include Metro Line 1 from Ghatkopar to Andheri and Versova, Line 2A from Andheri West to Dahisar East, Line 7 from Dahisar East to Andheri East, and Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, which runs from Colaba to Bandra Kurla Complex and SEEPZ. Officials expect the new lines to reduce congestion, cut travel time, and strengthen last-mile connectivity for daily commuters. The inauguration also reflects the state government’s push to create a more integrated and modern transport system for India’s financial capital.
The opening of Metro Lines 9 and 2B is another milestone in Mumbai’s rapid urban transport transformation. As more corridors become operational, commuters are likely to benefit from smoother and more reliable travel across the city. For Mumbai, the expansion of the metro network signals a long term shift toward faster, cleaner, and better connected public transport.
