Rajya Sabha witnesses repeated disruptions over key issues

The Rajya Sabha on Monday saw frequent disruptions as opposition members raised slogans and sought discussions on a range of pressing issues. The uproar began soon after the House convened for the day, with members from several parties demanding immediate debates on matters including rising prices, unemployment, and recent incidents of violence in some states.

Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar attempted to restore order, urging members to maintain decorum and allow the scheduled legislative business to proceed. However, repeated interruptions led to multiple adjournments before the lunch break.

Government ministers expressed concern over the stalled proceedings, saying that important bills were awaiting discussion. Opposition leaders countered that their demands for urgent debates were being ignored, forcing them to protest.

The disruptions have raised concerns that the remaining days of the session could also be impacted, potentially delaying the passage of key legislations. Parliamentary observers noted that the current deadlock reflects the widening rift between the treasury benches and the opposition, with little sign of compromise so far.
