Desk Correspondent , California - Thousands of users are experiencing a 'Something is Wrong' issue when attempting to access the YouTube homepage. According to the outrage tracking website Downdetector, complaints of issues started coming up around 8:00 EDT on Tuesday. By 8:50, 320,000 reports regarding the outreach had been registered in the United States. Even if the main cause was the same, the outcome looked different for every individual user. For some, the main screen is black, and for others, the app is unable to load, irrespective of any platform.
Earlier, during this, Google came up with its first official public statement posted by TeamYouTube, saying, "We're aware some of you are having issues accessing YouTube right now. Our teams are aware, and we'll provide updates as soon as we have them."
The page later stated, "An issue with our recommendations system prevented videos from appearing across surfaces on YouTube (including the homepage, the YouTube app, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids)."
"The homepage is back, but we're still working on a full fix," they added.
In India, the number of reports started spiking up significantly, with over 19,000 complaints registered this morning, indicating the outrage is global rather than regional. Users reported errors while opening the YouTube app and websites with repetitive 'Something is wrong' or 'Loading' messages on the screen. During the same time, there were also additional complaints about Google services, which may indicate a more widespread platform-side problem.
Although the numbers may not accurately reflect the overall number of disrupted users, Downdetector is a powerful indicator of disruption patterns since it gathers outage data from user-submitted reports and other signals. Users from all over the world posted about simultaneous access difficulties on social media platforms. Moreover, as per the public statements made by YouTube, they are on it to fix their technical failure.
