Ranit Kr. Singh , Kolkata - West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the global headquarters of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Mayapur on Thursday to perform ‘Gau Puja’ (cow worship). Arriving at the temple complex in Nadia district around 11:30 AM, the newly appointed Chief Minister entered the temple's gaushala (cow shelter) barefoot, dressed in a traditional white dhoti-kurta. He offered prayers, conducted sacred rituals, and fed fruits and sweets to the cows to seek blessings for the state.
According to temple officials, the spiritual visit comes less than a month after Adhikari took charge as the state's Chief Minister. Adhikari stated that the visit is part of his ongoing spiritual engagements across prominent religious shrines following his assumption of office. ISKCON Trustee and Country Director of Communications, Yudhistir Govinda Das, warmly welcomed the Chief Minister, acknowledging his long-standing relationship with the institution as a dedicated devotee and well-wisher over the years.
The high-profile visit drew massive crowds, with hundreds of locals and devotees gathering early in the morning to catch a glimpse of the Chief Minister. To manage the gathering and ensure safety, the local administration implemented stringent security protocols, including heavy police deployment and barricading at key entry points around the sprawling campus. Following the rituals, Adhikari scheduled a closed-door meeting with ISKCON monks and temple management leaders to discuss administrative cooperation.
