Desk Correspondent , Lucknow – In a chilling case of matricide, police in Amhora have arrested a woman for allegedly hiring a contract killer to murder her own son. The victim, identified as 28-year-old Rajesh Kumar, was found dead near a canal bridge earlier this week. Following a swift investigation, authorities apprehended the mother, Shanti Devi, and a local history-sheeter she reportedly paid ₹50,000 to carry out the crime.
According to Superintendent of Police, the motive behind the killing was a long-standing dispute over the family’s ancestral land. Devi allegedly feared that her son was planning to sell the property against her wishes to clear his personal debts. After several heated arguments, she contacted the hitman to "eliminate the problem." Forensic evidence and surveillance footage from the area helped investigators link the contract killer to Devi’s residence, leading to their subsequent confession during interrogation.
The local police have recovered the murder weapon and a portion of the cash paid for the contract. Both suspects have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder and criminal conspiracy. They were produced before a local court on Monday and have been remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues to determine if any other family members were involved in the plot.
