Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has revealed that financial assets worth ₹1.84 lakh crore remain unclaimed across banks, regulatory bodies, and financial institutions. These assets include bank deposits, insurance payouts, provident funds, dividends, shares, and mutual fund proceeds.
In response, the government has launched a three-month nationwide campaign titled “Your Money, Your Right” (आपकी पूँजी, आपका अधिकार), from October to December 2025, to encourage people to claim what is rightfully theirs. The initiative aims to make the claim process simpler by offering on-spot guidance, digital tools, and step-by-step assistance.
Sitharaman emphasized the need to focus on three “A”s — Awareness, Access, and Action — so that rightful owners can trace and retrieve their assets. She assured that the unclaimed funds are kept in safe custody under government oversight, and those who come forward with proper documentation will receive their dues.
