The Karnataka Lokayukta has summoned explanations from five officers of the Urban Development Department (UDD) — including one retired official — over their decision to remain silent during the approval process of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) policy by the state Cabinet.
The officers have been asked why they withheld their opinions or objections during deliberations on the CGD policy. Their silence has now come under investigation, as it is viewed as a possible dereliction of duty in the policymaking process.
Sources indicate that the policy attracted controversies related to transparency and procedural compliance. The Lokayukta’s probe seeks to determine whether the silent stance of UDD officials facilitated any undue advantages or compromised public interest.
