Southern Taiwan faced heavy rain and strong winds as Typhoon Podul swept through the region, disrupting daily life and causing damage to infrastructure. Local authorities reported that one person has gone missing after being swept away by floodwaters in Pingtung County.

The storm made landfall late Monday, bringing wind speeds of up to 130 kilometres per hour. Several towns experienced power outages, fallen trees, and blocked roads, prompting emergency crews to work through the night to restore services and clear debris.

Fishermen were advised to remain in port, and flights from multiple airports were cancelled or delayed due to the severe weather. Schools and offices in the affected areas were closed as a precaution.

Meteorologists warned that while the typhoon has moved further offshore, heavy rainfall is expected to continue in southern and central parts of Taiwan, raising concerns about possible landslides in mountainous regions. Emergency teams remain on high alert as search operations for the missing person continue.
