Kushinagar (Uttar Pradesh), August 31, 2025 – Two men accused in a so-called ‘Love Jihad’ case were arrested after being injured in a police encounter in Kushinagar, officials said on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Shahnawaz and Shahid, were wanted for allegedly luring a Hindu girl into a relationship under false identity. Police said the duo opened fire when a patrol team tried to intercept them near Tamkuhi Road area.
In retaliatory firing, both men sustained gunshot injuries and were taken into custody. They are currently undergoing treatment under police security. Arms and ammunition were also recovered from their possession.
The case against the two had sparked tensions in the region earlier this month. Police said further investigation is underway to determine their links and background.
Authorities have maintained heightened security in the district to prevent any law-and-order disturbance following the arrests.
