Desk Correspondent , Chandigarh – High-security zones in Punjab were rocked by two low-intensity explosions within a span of three hours on Tuesday night, targeting areas near prominent military and paramilitary installations. The first blast occurred around 8:00 PM outside the Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab Frontier Headquarters in Jalandhar, followed by a second explosion at approximately 11:00 PM near the Army cantonment on Khasa Road in Amritsar. While no fatalities were reported, the back-to-back incidents have triggered a state-wide security alert and a massive forensic investigation into a potential coordinated attempt to disturb the region's peace.
In Jalandhar, the explosion originated from a scooter belonging to a local delivery worker parked at BSF Chowk, a busy intersection near the frontier’s main gate. The blast was powerful enough to shatter windowpanes of nearby shops and damage a traffic signal pole, leaving the vehicle a charred wreck. Hours later, in Amritsar, an explosive object was reportedly hurled at the boundary wall of the Khasa Army cantonment. The impact knocked down a protective tin sheet and caused a loud sound that panicked local residents. Forensic teams and bomb disposal squads from both the state police and central agencies have since cordoned off the sites to collect shrapnel and chemical samples for further analysis.
The twin incidents have sparked a fierce political row, with opposition leaders accusing the Aam Aadmi Party government of failing to maintain law and order. Senior officials stated that while preliminary assessments suggest the use of low-grade explosives, all angles—including a possible terror link—are being rigorously examined. Security has been significantly beefed up at all sensitive installations across the state, and police are currently scanning CCTV footage from both locations to identify suspects seen fleeing the scenes. As of Wednesday morning, no arrests have been made, though the owner of the vehicle in Jalandhar is being questioned as part of the ongoing probe.
