TVK Confident of Forming Government Solo as Early Trends Show Strong Gains in Tamil Nadu Polls

Desk Correspondent , Chennai - Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the party founded by Tamil superstar Vijay, expressed strong confidence on Monday that it will secure a majority and form the government on its own in Tamil Nadu. Spokesperson Felix Gerald asserted that the party is on track to achieve this in its debut electoral contest, stating, “DMK was running about in a dark room, now they know the reality, TVK will form govt on its own.” Early trends from counting of votes, cast in a single phase on April 23, indicated TVK making significant inroads and coming close to the majority mark of 118 seats in the 234-member assembly, while the ruling DMK was leading in over 50 constituencies.

The nail-biting contest has positioned the actor-turned-politician, popularly known as Thalapathy Vijay, as a formidable challenger to the established Dravidian parties. TVK, contesting all seats independently without alliances, has leveraged Vijay's massive fan following and anti-incumbency sentiments against the DMK government. Analytics from portals like PValue showed the fledgling party performing robustly by mid-morning, reflecting exit poll projections that had highlighted its potential surge among young and rural voters. This development marks a potential seismic shift in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, traditionally dominated by DMK and AIADMK.

Vijay's entry into politics last year with TVK has energized the electorate, with his campaign focusing on corruption-free governance, dignity, and breaking the cycle of nepotism in state politics. Voting coincided with the first phase of West Bengal polls, drawing widespread attention. While final results are awaited, TVK's momentum underscores the star power's translation into political capital. Political observers note that a solo majority would be a historic feat for a new party, potentially redefining alliances and power dynamics in the state for years to come.
