Trump Rules Out Immediate Tariffs on China, Delays Action on Russian Oil

Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said his administration has “no imminent plan” to impose new tariffs on Chinese goods, signaling a temporary pause in escalating trade tensions. He also announced that penalties targeting Russian oil will remain on hold, citing the need to safeguard U.S. economic interests.

Trump clarified that while his government continues to monitor China’s trade practices, the decision to delay additional tariffs was taken to prevent disruptions to American industries and consumers. “We are reviewing our options carefully, but there will be no sudden steps against China right now,” he said during a press interaction.

On Russia, Trump acknowledged growing calls for stricter action against Moscow’s oil exports in light of the ongoing Ukraine conflict. However, he stressed that immediate restrictions could destabilize global energy markets and lead to higher fuel costs in the United States. “We cannot allow American families to suffer from rising prices because of decisions made in haste,” he added.

The announcements highlight a balancing act between foreign policy pressures and domestic economic priorities. Analysts suggest the move may be aimed at calming both international partners and American businesses already grappling with inflation and supply chain concerns.

While Trump’s stance has drawn mixed reactions, experts believe the administration will continue to tread cautiously, weighing geopolitical risks against economic stability before finalizing future trade and energy measures.
