Desk Correspondent , New Delhi — Two tragic accidents in residential complexes have claimed the lives of a seven-year-old boy in Pune and a four-year-old boy in Greater Noida, sparking fresh concerns over child safety in high-rise societies. In Pune’s Nimbajnagar area, seven-year-old Shivansh Shailesh Dhut died on Monday night after getting trapped inside a malfunctioning elevator at Riddhi Siddhi Apartment. Meanwhile, in Greater Noida's Omicron-1 area, a four-year-old boy lost his life after accidentally falling from an open, unprotected 15th-floor window while accompanying his mother to her workplace.
The Pune tragedy occurred when Shivansh went missing while playing in his building premises. According to Senior Police Inspector Vinay Patankar, the child entered the lift alone and pressed the buttons, causing the elevator to get stuck before reaching the second floor. After an anxious search by his family, the fire brigade was called to rescue the child, but officials confirmed he had already expired before being brought out. A preliminary police inquiry detected no major technical fault in the lift, and authorities have officially registered a case of accidental death while further investigations continue.
The second incident involved a toddler who accompanied his mother, a domestic help, to a vacant 15th-floor flat she was cleaning. Police reported that while the mother was working, the child wandered toward an open window that lacked protective glass or safety barriers. He fell to the ground and was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital. Greater Noida police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination and are investigating the exact circumstances, though no official case has been registered yet.
