Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - Shock and tension gripped Punjab after an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the traffic police was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Amritsar early in the morning while on his way to duty. The incident has raised fresh concerns over law and order in the region, with senior police officials launching an intensive investigation to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.
According to reports, the ASI was travelling toward his duty location during the early morning hours when unidentified attackers opened fire on him near the Amritsar area. The officer reportedly suffered critical gunshot injuries and died at the scene before emergency medical assistance could arrive. Police teams immediately cordoned off the area and began collecting forensic evidence while checking CCTV footage from nearby roads and establishments to trace the attackers. Officials suspect the assailants may have been tracking the officer’s movement before carrying out the attack, though the motive behind the killing remains unclear. Senior Punjab Police officers condemned the incident and assured that a special investigation team would be formed to fast track the case. Security measures in nearby areas have also been intensified following the shooting. The incident has sparked outrage among police personnel and local residents, with many demanding strict action against those involved in the attack on the officer.
