Highway toll operators will receive compensation for a period of three months to make up for revenue loss following the introduction of the FASTag annual pass system. The decision comes after several toll concessionaires raised concerns that the new system would reduce daily collections at toll plazas.
Officials explained that the annual pass scheme allows frequent highway users to pay a fixed amount in advance, cutting down on regular toll deductions. While this eases travel for commuters, it has temporarily impacted the revenue model of toll operators.
To address the issue, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has assured operators of financial support during the transition. The compensation is aimed at ensuring that ongoing highway projects and maintenance work are not disrupted due to short-term revenue gaps.
Authorities said the system is designed to encourage smoother travel, reduce congestion at toll booths, and promote digital payments while balancing the interests of both commuters and operators.
