Three people lost their lives when an ambulance veered off the road and rolled down a hillside in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district late Friday night. The vehicle was carrying patients and attendants when the accident occurred on a steep stretch, police officials said.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver appeared to lose control of the ambulance while navigating a sharp turn. The vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge, leading to the deaths of three occupants on the spot. Several others sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Local authorities, along with rescue teams, reached the site soon after being alerted by villagers. The damaged vehicle was later pulled out with the help of cranes, while police began an investigation into the exact cause of the accident.
Residents of the area expressed grief over the incident and called for stricter safety measures on hilly roads. Officials said the bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem, and further inquiries are underway.
