Jammu: More than 5,000 people were evacuated from flood-affected areas of Jammu after incessant rainfall triggered waterlogging and rising water levels in several parts of the region. Rescue teams comprising the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force and local authorities carried out large-scale operations to move residents to safer locations.
Officials said several localities were submerged, forcing people to leave their homes. Schools and government offices remained closed while transportation services were hit due to waterlogged roads and damage to key routes.
Efforts are now being made to restore essential services including power supply, drinking water and healthcare facilities. The administration has set up temporary shelters and is distributing relief materials among the displaced families.
Authorities have urged people to remain cautious as more rain is expected in the coming days. The situation is being closely monitored, with emergency teams on standby to respond to any further rise in water levels.
