Reports from May indicated their friendship "halted" amidst Lively’s legal battle with Justin Baldoni, which led to Swift being served a subpoena.
An insider noted that Swift, godmother to Lively's daughters, was upset after being referred to as a "dragon" in a text from Lively, causing a "fracture" in their calm. "The Life of a Showgirl" features 12 tracks in total, with "Ruin the Friendship" prominent among them.
