The Tamil Nadu government has revoked the manufacturing license of Sresan Pharmaceuticals, the company behind the cough syrup Coldrif, which has been linked to the deaths of 22 children in Madhya Pradesh.  A state health department statement confirmed that the license cancellation is complete and the firm has been shut down.

The action comes after tests revealed dangerously high contamination in the syrup—48.6% diethylene glycol (DEG), nearly 486 times the permissible limit.  The Tamil Nadu government had earlier issued a “stop production” order and initiated show-cause notices to the company’s owner, G. Ranganathan, and the analytical chemist K. Maheswari.
